Another amazing year with some exceptional photos submitted to the "Faces of Evanston" photography contest.  The contest is now over and the judging process begins with a wonderful panel of judges from the Evanston Arts community. The reception this year will be held at Noyes Cultural Arts center on Sept 23 from 5:00pm-7pm. All are welcome to honor the winners and participants with food, wine and music and of course an amazing display
of photos. Winners and honorable mentions will all receive certificates and recognition at the event so please come join us as we honor Evanston and it's Legacy wth the "Faces of Evanston".

When Evanston signed the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement in 2006, it joined hundreds of other American cities that have pledged to ‘meet or beat’ the Kyoto Protocol by reducing GHG emissions to 7% below 1990 levels by 2012.

Citizens for a Greener Evanston (CGE) arts and culture task force. If you are unfamiliar with CGE, it is a non-profit organization made up community members working to reduce Evanston's carbon footprint.  The CGE Cultural Task Force is very excited to be planning its first event: Artists for a Greener Evanston. Through a showcase of Evanston "green" artists, CGE hopes to bring attention to Evanston's climate action plan and to promote community involvement.

The first night will play host to an opening reception while the second night will add family-oriented activities.  The showcase is sponsored by Citizens for a Greener Evanston.

 This Nigerian-born sculptor works with woven fiber and recycled materials. She is "intrigued by the ephemeral nature of objects and transient processes that occur over the passage of time." She continues, "The sculptural pieces created for this show broadly reference recycling, revitalization and redemption of form or materials that were once used differently."

The Three Sisters, by Anton Chekhov, depicts an entire village of unlucky lovers struggling with the bittersweet distance between reality and dreams. The three sisters: schoolmistress Olga, married Masha and idealistic Irina, are stuck in a backwater town, and long to get to Moscow where they imagine their lives will be transformed.

This classic tale, steeped in longing, is given another look in a new version adapted by Sarah Ruhl, one of America’s most acclaimed young playwrights, and author of In the Next Room (Or the Vibrator Play). The Chicago Premiere is directed by Chicago theatre veteran Joyce Piven, the co-founder and Artistic Director Emeritus of Piven Theatre Workshop. Discover the humor and heartbreak of one of the world’s great plays, retold by one of the most original voices in contemporary theatre.

Due to popular demand, the ECC (Evanston Children's Choir) is expanding its Junior Choir program beginning September, 2010, doubling our Junior capacity from 40 to 80 kids. Junior Choir 1, directed by Gary Geiger, will continue to meet on Fridays at 4:15, and the new Junior Choir 2, directed by Kathryn Crabb, will meet on Mondays at 4:15. Our upper-level groups, the Main Choir and Concert Choir, will continue to meet on Tuesdays at 4:15.

All choirs meet at the Noyes Cultural Arts Center. Registration proceeds on a rolling basis throughout the summer. All new kids must audition for placement. The ECC encourages interested families to contact us soon since choirs may fill up by the fall.

*The ECC never turns any child away because of money.
