Written by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty and based on the book My Love, My Love by Rosa Guy, is a musical set on a Caribbean island in the Antilles, which is the home to two entirely different societies: the poor peasants and the aristocratic Grand Hommes.
A group of storytellers tell the tale of the young girl Ti Moune, who was saved from a flood by the gods as a child and raised by a pair of kindly old peasants. As she grows up, however, Ti Moune longs for a grander life than the one she faces and, inspired by the sight of a young and handsome grand homme driving past in a white car, prays to the gods to grant her wish.

Art Under Glass
|
|
at
708 Church Street Evanston IL
|
|
|
Mayor Tisdahl and project organizers will kick off Art Under Glass at an opening reception in the lobby of 708 Church Street at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17. Artists will offer a short tour of the windows featuring their work. The public is welcome.
Art Under Glass showcases the work of local artists, and brings life and energy to unoccupied retail spaces. Media will be diverse including photography, sculpture, glass and canvas works.
"We are excited about the opportunity to showcase the work of Evanston artists and, at the same time, enhance the appearance of our business community. This is a perfect example of how the Evanston businesses and artists can support one another, which is the goal of our committee,” said Penny Rotheiser, Arts & Business Committee Co-Chair.
The first phase of artwork will be installed the second week of June, in the 1600 block of Orrington, thanks to the enthusiastic approval of building manager Jim Nash of Farnsworth-Hill. The goal is to expand the project to other sections of downtown Evanston on an ongoing basis, fusing disjointed blocks of an otherwise vital district.
The artist lineup includes Carlo Lo Cascio, David Gista, Lisa Harris, and Judy Koon from the Evanston Art Center; Wren Campbell, Ted Harris and Erin Mooney from Open Studio Project; Lena Freireich, Doniece Malia-Wall and Jill Brazel.
"This project will enrich the experience of residents and visitors alike, and expose everyone to the great talent in our midst," commented Carolyn Dellutri, Executive Director of Evmark.
The Arts & Business Committee consists of local arts organizations and business leaders who joined together to increase the awareness and support of the arts in Evanston, and to use the arts to bring more business into the city.
